Early Life:
As a young girl, growing up with 11 siblings (7 girls & 5 boys), Shirley was highly intrigued as she watched her mother style the hair of her 6 sisters.  Before long, Shirley was recruited as her mothers back up. Read more...

This was the unofficial start of what would turn into a lifetime fulfillment of true passion.  Shirley knew at an early age that God had blessed her with a special talent and “magical” hands to perform that talent.  This was her “Ah Moment” and she knew, without a doubt, that she wanted to design hair. Upon graduating from Rockville Beauty Academy, Shirley further pursued her education in hair care, training at the Vidal Sassoon Academy.  This further validated the mastery behind the “Artist”.

In early 1992, Shirley’s inspiration reached a new level as she became an entrepreneur and opened her first salon, Strands Hair Studio, in Silver Spring, MD.   As her clientele expanded and business flourished, her desire to globally share her talent became more evident.   This was the beginning of a journey that birthed many exiting opportunities for Shirley, including becoming a Master Artist/Platform Stylist for Clairol.

Since then, Shirley has graced the stages of many of the Hair Industry’s most prominent shows and has travelled internationally to display her talent.  When she is not dedicating her time creating a range of designs at Strands, she welcomes every chance to broaden her education.  Whether she is designing a vintage 60’s coif, a sassy sleek modern look, or a futuristic cutting edge design, her display of extreme confidence, effortless skill and flawless presentation, make her a “force to be reckoned with” among today’s hair industry.

Shirley is currently working on a few new horizons.  They include: Debuting a series of “How To” DVDs; Introducing “Shirley G’s Coiffure Care”, a product line for all hair types; An exclusive Strands Hair Boutique in New York; and Designing hair for TV and Film.  In her spare time, she is dedicated to her husband and family and delights in gourmet cooking.
